The Shimura Family First introduced in chapter 9.5, Mitsuru's family consists of his mother, father, younger sister, and his new nephew. Mitsuru's father used to work in construction until an accident on the job left him with a permanent leg injury. His mother has worked as a teacher, and his sister was an office lady ('OL') before she became pregnant. Here are some short bios for them all so you can get to know them a bit better! Sanae Shimura Age: 52 Height: 5'6" Mitsuru's mother is quite bubbly. before she had her two children she was a schoolteacher--mainly for kindergarten-age children. After Mitsuru and Mihoko were born, she took a break, but started tutoring later on when they were older. Sanae is fiercely loyal to her husband and stayed by his side every day through his injury and subsequent rehabilitation.   Name: Tadashi Shimura Age: 55 Height: 5'10" Tadashi is a natural hard-worker. As the foreman for a small construction company he has overseen the construction of many buildings in the area where his family lives. Unfortunately an accident on the job left him with a limp and put him out of work for awhile. Ridiculously stubborn, he hated not being able to provide for his family, which was one of the reasons he told Mitsuru to get a 'real' job (meaning a stable one with no real chance of getting hurt). Now he's semi-retired and content with playing around with his grandson.   Name: Mihoko Shimura Age: 26 Height: 5'7" Mihoko, Mitsuru's younger sister, just became a mother for the first time. Strong-willed like her father, Mihoko was more popular in school than her brother, and dated a lot of boys. She and Mitsuru bicker a lot, but she does love her brother and 'keeps an eye on him' in her own special way. Up until she had her son, she worked as a secretary.   Name: Kentarou Shimura Age: about three months Height: 6 1/2 lbs., 4 oz. at birth Kentarou is the first grandchild in the Shimura household, and Mitsuru's nephew. Right now he doesn't do much but make a few noises here and there. He seems like a happy baby, though. At this point, however, not much is known about his father.
